A MAN has been jailed for six-and-a-half years after a machete attack in Coventry City Centre.
Daniel John-Forbes was jailed following the attack, which took place on September 27.
He was jailed for an initial four-and-a-half years at Warwick Crown Court, with an extended period of two years after being found to be a dangerous offender.
John-Forbes, 18 and of Grace Road, Birmingham, approached several people at Broadgate before pulling a machete out of his trousers and attacking one of them.
He hit a man in the arm, leg and hand, causing potentially life-changing injuries before running off, but he was later tracked down by investigating officers.
Officers from the Coventry NPU and CID helped to piece together John-Forbes’ movements, and Coventry Complex Investigations team members then identified him and charged him with Section 18 wounding and possession of a bladed weapon.
Det Insp Katherine Sibley, from the Eastern Complex Investigations team, said: “This was a violent and unprovoked attack, and this sentencing is the result of some excellent work by PC Jasmine Lovell and the rest of the team.
“They worked tirelessly and to a high level to identify Forbes and put together the case.
“The case was so strong the defendant pleaded guilty to all charges at the first hearing.”
