A NORTHAMPTON man has been charged by West Midlands police after a high speed pursuit from the Midlands to Mansfield.

Officers from the Central Motorway Police Group initially received reports of a van travelling on the wrong side of the M6 Toll, near the Toll Plaza, on Saturday evening (August 15).

Police say Jason Ribchester is alleged to have hit speeds of up to 95mph as the Renault van was followed on the M42 through Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, and then onto the M1.

The 42-year-old is also accused of ramming into two police cars, leaving an officer with only minor injuries, before officers were able to physically stop the van on the motorway near Mansfield at around 11.30pm.

He was brought back to custody in the West Midlands and charged with dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and assaulting an emergency worker.

Ribchester, from Northampton, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday (17 August) and was remanded in custody to appear before the city’s Crown Court on 14 September.
