COVENTRY’S next generation of talented athletes represented their city with pride as they scooped six medals at the International Children’s Games in Daegu, South Korea last week.
Team Coventry competed in swimming, table tennis and athletics at the Games, taking home four silver medals and two bronzes in the latter event.
The team was made up of 18 athletes aged between 12 and 15 years old.
The International Olympic Committee-accredited event takes place in a different international city each year, with Coventry hosting last year’s Games.
The team’s journey to South Korea was funded by fund-raising events such as the Coventry Children’s Mile as well as through donations from local sponsors and organisations.
Team Coventry manager Danny Kingham said: “We’re so proud of all of the athletes that competed and represented our city, they all supported each other and tried their hardest in their events.
“Their efforts and commitment do not go unrecognised and it was a pleasure to manage a team of such enthusiastic local youngsters.
“Daegu gave them a great taste of international sporting competition as they competed in some venues that other sporting icons have won medals in.”
