A SPECIAL memorial football match will take place to celebrate the life of ‘much-loved’ Coventry boy Hamza Alrimi as his school and loved ones attempt to fund a headstone in his memory.
Hamza was just 13 years old when he died after suddenly falling ill back in December.
With his parent’s blessing, Hamza’s school, Sidney Stringer Academy, is looking to raise cash for the headstone which will be laid at his resting place.
The Alrimi memorial cup will be played at Sidney Stringer Academy, on Tuesday, July 18 with all the cash going towards the headstone.
Hamza was an extremely talented footballer and represented his school and the Christ the King under 14s team.
The game in his honour will see Hamza’s school team face neighbouring Coundon Court, where he also had many friends through his membership with Christ The King.
Sidney Stringer teacher Lauren McNulty, who coached Hamza, said: “Hamza was a special student and a much-loved member of the Sidney Stringer community.
“He was a charismatic, bubbly and loving character who always put 100 per cent into everything that he did.
“Not only was Hamza a talented footballer, but he was also a student who had an extremely kind heart and would often be the student who stayed behind to help with equipment or offered you his last square of chocolate.
Hamza is remembered fondly for his acts of kindness and enthusiasm for learning and his memory will live on.”
Since then, a JustGiving page has raised £730 towards Hamza’s headstone.
Shortly before his death, Hamza had also joined the Cyrille Regis Legacy Trust’s ‘Strike A Change’ cohort.
The Sky Blues and England legend’s widow Julia has accepted an invitation to present the trophy to the winning team at the memorial cup.
Julia, who chairs the Trust, added: “We know from all we have heard just what a special young man Hamza was and how his loss would have devastated his family and friends.
“It will be a privilege to attend and play a part in this tribute on behalf of the Trust.”
