A MEMORIAL to Tile Hill community champion Terry Harvey is set to be unveiled this weekend.
A plaque has been created to commemorate the life of Mr Harvey, who passed away last year following a lifetime of dedication to his local community, Coventry City Council says.
The plaque will be adorned this Saturday (August 3) in Jardine Crescent and the community is invited.
Mr Harvey was known as ‘Mr Tile Hill’ due to his voluntary efforts.
This included chairing the Tile Hill North Residents’ Association, working as a school governor at Limbrick Wood Primary School and updating local history boards.
The council says Mr Harvey helped people of all ages in Tile Hill, assisting with murals created by young people and even building ramps for a disabled neighbour’s doorway.
His efforts were celebrated by the council in 2012, when he received the Coventry Good Citizen Award.
Lord Mayor Councillor Linda Bigham said: “Terry’s dedication to Tile Hill shines through in every word that’s spoken about him. “It’s clear that he was valued by everyone who met him, and he had a true community spirit that helped to keep his local area thriving.
“I’m looking forward to helping to celebrate his life and work and seeing a permanent tribute installed to someone who so deserved one.”
Coun Julia Lepoidevin, a ward councillor for Woodlands who worked closely with Terry on numerous projects, said: “It has been a real pleasure to be involved with organising this event and to see a permanent tribute to Terry Harvey in Jardine Crescent, Tile Hill.
“It was a privilege to work with Terry who worked tirelessly as a volunteer for the Tile Hill community and it is only right that he is remembered in this way.
“He will always be remembered as Mr Tile Hill, a true community champion.”
