MEN and women in Coventry are being urged to help beat cancer sooner by volunteering at Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life and Pretty Muddy Run.
Both events will raise vital funds for the charity in its attempt to beat cancer, and organisers are calling on people from all walks of life to sign up as helpers.
Taking place on Saturday (July 1) and Sunday (July 2), both events are open to men and women – and a wide variety of roles are available.
At the 5k and 10k Race for Life events, volunteers are needed to manage the information marquee, cheer participants around the course and hand out medals at the finish line.
Meanwhile at Race for Life Pretty Muddy volunteers will play a crucial role encouraging women of all ages as they tackle the scramble nets and hurtle themselves down the mud-splattered inflatable slide.
There’s also the opportunity to be a ‘mud mixer’ on the day, helping to get the consistency just right for participants to crawl, wade and splash about in.
Katie Martin, Cancer Research UK’s Coventry Event Manager, said: “Race for Life is a women-only series of events but men have a really important role to play.
“The atmosphere on the day is electric as people from all walks of life come together to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
“Without the dedication of the volunteers, who give their time and energy to support our cause, our events simply wouldn’t be possible.
“Everyone is welcome so we urge men and women in Coventry to sign up today.”
One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives.
However more people are surviving the disease now than ever before.
