Men offered free pints for getting prostate screening in Balsall Common

Coventry Editorial 8th May, 2019   0

MEN who undergo a prostate screening in Balsall Common will be rewarded with a free pint of beer after a charity teamed up with a local pub.

On Saturday May 18 from 10am to 1pm, Balsall Common Lions are inviting men – especially those over 50 – to a prostate screening at St Peter’s Church Hall, Holly Lane.

And the first 200 people to visit for the simple blood test will be provided with a ‘free post-prostate pint’ voucher to redeem on the same day at The White Horse pub on Kenilworth Road.

Owner of The White Horse Alastair Tyson said: “We are hoping the offer of a free pint of beer – or a soft drink – will encourage gents to get themselves checked.

“We are delighted to support the Balsall Common Lions and increase local community awareness of this incredibly important event.”

The screening involves qualified phlebotomists taking a blood sample which will be sent to a hospital laboratory for analysis. Retired consultant urologist David Baxter-Smith will also be at the session providing informative talks about prostate health.

Results are provided in confidence by prostate cancer awareness charity the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust in writing.
