More than 1,400 cannabis plants seized and one arrested as police raid disused Coventry church

MORE THAN 1,400 cannabis plants were seized during a raid by police in Coventry.

Officers also broke up a substantial growing operation when they raided a disused church in the Lower Stoke area.

Officers swooped at the former Stoke United Reform Church on Harefield Road, Coventry, at around 7.50am on Thursday.

A man who tried to escape via the roof was arrested after being tracked by West Midlands Police drones team.

A total of 1,411 plants were seized. They will now be destroyed and officers dismantled thousands of pounds worth of growing equipment to ensure it cannot be used again.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged.

Coventry Police said every cannabis farm it destroyed helped prevent a vicious circle.

“The plants will not end up as street deals, the profits will not go on to fund other crime, and they will not ruin lives or pollute our communities.”

Anyone with suspicions on premises being used to grow cannabis should report it by calling 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Alternatively, submit information via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk.
