FAMILY and friends of Coventry boy Keaton Slater joined each other to celebrate his life at Coventry Catherdral.

Mourners – wearing sky blue in recognition of Keaton’s love for Coventry City Football Club – gathered at the cathedral, sharing memories of his short, but happy life.

Last month, Coventry City FC paid tribute to the 12-year-old Sky Blues fan and the club has been liaising with Keaton’s family to support them and to work on a way to pay tribute to him.

Reverend Canon Mary Gregory welcomed mourners with an opening prayer after the coffin was carried down the isle to Mr Blue Sky.

Following hymns Louise and Clint, Keaton’s parents, and his brothers Keanu and Kai prepared heartfelt tributes which Rev Gregory delivered on their behalf.

People said it was a ‘beautiful service for a beautiful soul’.

Snapshots of Keaton’s 12 years were played on a screen, giving people a moment of reflection of his life.

Headteacher of Cardinal Newman School, Emma O’Connor read a bible reading, Mark, Chapter 8: versus 35-41.

As the service commenced, the football anthem Sweet Caroline played as Keaton’s close family and friends followed the coffin to a horse and carraige, taking him to the crematorium.

Keaton Slater died after being hit by a car which failed to stop on Radford Road on June 14.

Dolars Aleksanders is still wanted as a prime suspect after the 12-year-old was killed by a hit and run crash.
