MUSIC MATTERS - 601, Guy Surtees and Coventry Music Museum's appeal for volunteers

Coventry Editorial 16th Nov, 2024   0

COVENTRY Music Museum Curator Pete Chambers BEM writes for the Observer.

601

I recently reviewed the CD ‘Just New Rust’ by The 601. The man behind it Mick Costin has kindly donated copies to The Coventry Music Museum with all profits going to the Museum funds.

Can I thank Mick so much for this very kind gesture. The CDs are just £5 each.

Mick said of my review: “Hi Pete Just to say thanks for your review of my 601 CD, and your positive comments. I really appreciate it.

“It’s a compliment that you were so in tune with the sentiments of my songs.”

He also revealed the subject of his song ’Blew It’ (a song about seeing your idol and not speaking to them) was none other that Paul Simonon, of the Clash, who was walking along the Embankment on the Thames in London.

Looking for volunteers

The Music Museum is looking for new volunteers especially for Saturday and Sundays.

If you love your music (and no, you don’t have to be a 2-Tone or indeed a music expert), but you like to engage with people and talk about music, please send me your details to [email protected] with ‘Volunteering’ in the subject box.

And you could join our amazing award winning team at Coventry’s ‘number one place to visit’.

Guy is back

Guy Surtees is back as he says ‘with a two minute ‘CountryBilly’ banger for your ears!’

He added: “After a successful summer of shows, festivals, and having some fun, I’m back with the final single release from my iTunes number one album ‘Long Time Coming’, and this release is accompanied by a professionally produced video which will be on my YouTube channel soon (link below).

Guy has seven singles and an album behind him, 15,000 Spotify streams, 2,500 YouTube views and 1,600 Facebook followers – all in just 18 months – as well as some very successful festival dates, opening slots, a 12-night tour of Toronto, New York and Chicago. and two nominations in the UK Country Music Awards finals.

This has been another very successful year for Guy!

Guy said: “Only One Key is a break-up song, in less than two minutes, with a country/rockabilly sound.

“When a couple have been dating for a while, they may feel it’s time to exchange keys to their homes, but relationships don’t always go to plan, and when it ends, the time comes when they basically give back the keys.

“Where there were two keys on the keyring, there is now only one, the dream is over, no wedding bells, and just two lonely people, back on the dating scene.”

‘Only One Key’ was released on Monday (November 11) on all streaming platforms.

He is currently promoting his music at live shows, open mic nights and social media ‘Lives’, and is available for interviews, live sessions and features.
