MUSIC MATTERS- A ‘Special’ night for a brilliant band

COVENTRY Music Museum curator Pete Chambers BEM writes for the Observer.

Skinhead Symphony

I HAVE heard classic Ska and 2-Tone tracks performed in many ways, but never in an orchestral style.

Well, that is about to change when Coventry’s Rialto hosts an orchestral evening dedicated to Specials front-man Terry Hall who passed last December.

This is going to be something pretty special (no pun intended).

It will feature a full orchestra performing some of The Specials’ most iconic songs, reimagined in a symphonic style. The concert is on Friday, September 1, from 7.30pm at the Rialto Plaza.

It will include guest vocalists, not to be missed tickets on sale right now this event is in collaboration with The 2-Tone Village and The Untold Orchestra.

The Coventry Music Museum Recognised as Tripadvisor 2023 Travelers’ Choice Award Winner

The Ball Hill-based Music Museum has been recognised by Tripadvisor as a 2023 Travelers’ Choice award winner for Best Things to Do in Coventry.

The coveted award celebrates businesses that have consistently received great traveller reviews on Tripadvisor over the last 12 months, placing these winners among the 10 per cent of all listings on Tripadvisor globally.

This is our ninth year of winning this award, I want to thank all our visitors, supporters and of course our amazing volunteers.

Despite not being a ‘big’ museum, we have been constantly number one in the ‘Things to Do in Coventry’ above 75 other attractions in the city for nearly ten years.

We are one of the few to retain all our five bubbles (stars) after nearly a decade. It’s always been a labour of love; we call out to all those people who have yet to visit and hope to see them soon.

“Congratulations to the 2023 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice winners,” said John Boris, Chief Growth Officer at Tripadvisor.

“The travel resurgence we’ve seen in the past year has further heightened the competition. Earning a Travelers’ Choice Award demonstrates you have provided great experiences to those who matter most: Your guests.

“With changing expectations, continued labour shortages, and rising costs, this is no easy feat, and I am continually impressed with the hospitality industry’s resilience and ability to adapt.

Cheers to another successful year.”

The Coventry Music Museum is open Thursday to Sunday, £5 for adults and Kids go free (under 15).
