Have book will travel

HATS off to Michael Ponds and Jeff Yin, who have taken the title of a 2021 book quite literally.

The ‘111 Places in Coventry That You Shouldn’t Miss’ written by Rob Ganley is a superb guide to Coventry and all it has to offer as far as tourism is concerned.

The pair have taken it on themselves to visit each of the 111 places in the book – so far, they have done more than 100 and turned up last week to tick off entry number 1 (The 2-Tone Village) and entry number 24 (The Coventry Music Museum).

Sadly, they can never do the whole 111 as The Cosy Bookshop in Fargo Village is sadly no more.

Though they have visited its location, so that for me is a tick, fair play to them and good luck in completing this very interesting task, I wonder if anyone else has attempted this.

Warriors Of The Dystotheque On the Balcony at Sunrise

The Warriors are back again with a new single entitled ‘On the Balcony at Sunrise’.

Well, if it is atmosphere you want then this has it in spades – a chill out to the max and another superb body of work from this very inventive band.

This is what Jonny Mac had to say about the song.

“On the Balcony at Sunrise was born off the back of a DJ booking that was confirmed for Cafe del mar back in June 2022.

“Go back to 1995 when I (Jonny Mac) was a teenager and the conversation of where would you like to DJ if you had the chance, friends said Cream, MOS and I said Cafe del Mar.

“I’d DJ’d at Coastline and Savannah but never at the cafe so I figured rather than play someone else’s track as the sun was setting we’d write something special.

“On the Balcony at Sunrise was then inspired by a trip to Ibiza in 07 for the opening of Space and DC10 as I sat on the Balcony with my best friend Moosa (Rest Easy) watching the Sunrise before heading to DC10 at 8am.

“So even though we’d just spent two years writing the album and had taken a break we wrote this in a few days before I flew to Ibiza to DJ at CDM and Pikes. This one’s for Moosa.”

Chris Coco added: “Jonny sent me this track out of the blue and I kept going back to it and playing it over and over.

“It was an easy flow to make a remix by making the groove run through the whole track, then it felt more like a sunset than a sunrise we changed the name of my version to make it a way of opening and closing a new day.

“Hopefully both versions have that beauty and a hint of melancholy that make the best Balearic tunes so special”.

The artwork was created by Gordon Bell.
