Sonrisa Scenic Roots
Myself and Sonrisa go back a long way, in all that time the band has always released high quality music usually with Latin jazz stylee, fine as that was.
It is good to hear this new look Sonrisa, as they say: “Branching away from the Latin jazz style of previous material, this eclectic mix of songs crosses genres, refusing to be pinned down.
“From country to folk, Latin, tango and pop”
‘Scenic Roots’ brings you 14 brand new songs written for the band’s ongoing, Very Much Alive! Trio Tour, featuring a mix of rootsy acoustic guitar, soulful vocals, flute and a fusion of world rhythms.
I have to say it is great to hear the flute feature heavily on this album, we simply don’t get enough of that wonderful instrument on today’s offerings – all hail Kath Kimber on flute and outstanding vocals.
Now a trio there’s also Anthony McTiffen – guitar, bass guitar, keys, vocals, whistle and Tom Voce – percussion both giving this beautiful album its fundamental sound.
The track listing looks like this: 1. Easy, 2. Heatwave, 3. New Day, 4. Small Town, 5. Life’s Too Short, 6. Love Me for Me, 7. Lawrence, 8. Don’t Give Up, 9. Wings, 10. Cool Cafe, 11.Saturday Night Feeling, 12. Ebb and Flow, 13. Take a Dive, 14. Love is Letting You Go.
Each track is a delight, but if you pushed me for my faves, I would have to say ‘Easy’, ‘Life’s Too Short’, ‘Saturday Night Feeling’ and ‘Love is Letting Go’.
The album was mixed and produced by Anthony McTiffen, mastered by Steve Kitch at Steve Kitch Mastering. It was recorded and mixed at AKM Music Studios 23/24,.
All songs are by Anthony McTiffen and Kath Kimber, artwork is by Kath Kimber and cover photography is by Keith Kimber.
Hospital Castaway Radio
I recently had the pleasure of getting to pick five of my fave tracks on University Hospital Radio.
In the capable hands of Clive Brooks, I was humbled to be a castaway and pick five songs that represented key points in my life. Here’s my selection.

5 Songs from Pete Chambers
1. Blackberry Way – The Move- the first record I ever bought
2. Virginia Plain- Roxy Music – this song changed everything for me
3. Gangsters- The Special AKA- This song began my wonderful love affair with Coventry music
4. Blinding Lights-The Weekend- For many years other songs featured as my all time favourite song, then this came along, it was made up of bits of other songs, but its overall effect was just stunning and that opening synth stem surely must be played in heaven.
5. I Wanna to Wake Up With You – Boris Gardiner- Our wedding song and the first dance.
