Sugary Staple’s new great EP

Sugary Staple wears many hats as a actress, promoter and performer – she was recently hailed the ‘Princess of Ska’ by Louder Than War magazine last year, praise indeed.

Now, it’s time for her to do her own stuff once again with the release of a brand new EP.

Christine told me: “My ‘Going Home’ title song represents the many people we all know who spend a long time away, in a new town, city or country, in the armed forces, or for work travel, for special commitments, maybe been in prison or have been homeless and even artists and sports people on tour, who really miss their home and their families and friends.

“The song is about yearning for the safety and sanctuary of the place you call home, with the people or even pets who you love and trust.

“I dedicate it to all those people missing home or loved ones, and it is also a tribute to my awesome and homely uncle Gerald, who sadly passed recently.”

The ’Going Home’ EP featuring Neville Staple from the Specials (Band) members includes a special acoustic version of ‘Dirty Little Liar’, plus a super extended mix of ‘A Little Bit’.

There’s also a Ska Version of ‘Really Saying Something’, which Sugary recently performed at Glastonbury, Let’s Rock, Stone Valley and Forever Young festivals.

The CD includes a bonus track and Sugary performs an EP launch at Skamouth tomorrow (Saturday, September 30) in Great Yarmouth.

CVFolk launches an exciting new multi-media tour by annA rydeR and Nicky Cure.

Warwick musical dynamo, annA rydeR and highly acclaimed artist Nicky Cure set out on the third tour of their amazing ‘Fat Chance’ stage show of original songs and moving images.

Their first port of call is The Albany Theatre, Albany Road, Coventry, home base of CVFolk.

Taking place next Sunday, October 8, this unusual and captivating event combines annA’s prowess as a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter with Nicky’s skills in creating distinctive and intriguing moving pictures.

The visual aspects of the show range from immersive real-life images to Etch-A-Sketch art, with a few of annA’s own quirky hand-drawn cartoons thrown in for good measure.

annA‘s exuberant and humorous presentation is matched only by her outstanding musicianship. The stage is adorned with a spectrum of instruments from piano to trumpet, guitar to accordion and she sometimes plays them more than one at a time.

She has played with and for many different top-line artists including Fairport Convention, Eddi Reader and Julianne Regan (All about Eve), who has described annA as ‘a multi-talented ball of energy’.

Tickets are £11, bookable from the Albany Theatre Box Office, and the entertainment starts at 7.30pm with a support set by popular local singer and guitarist, Maria Barham.

The concert is one of a series of events organised by CVFolk in collaboration with the Albany Theatre.
