MUSIC MATTERS - We're all gearing up for Coventry's Godiva Festival

Coventry Editorial 27th Jun, 2024   0

The Godiva Festival beckons once again and, as always, the big artists are the most ubiquitous names branded around in the media including Coventry’s own Primitives.

For me and this music column it’s all about the local acts and this year there’s a new kid in town ‘The Cov Stage’.

As the festival blurb goes, “The Cov Stage is the place to be if you’re looking to discover Coventry and Warwickshire’s next big artists!

Each year, we host local artists through working with industry professionals and BBC CWR.

We cannot wait to see who we discover on The Cov Stage in 2024!

The real clever thing here is a series of ‘Takeovers’, here is what the Godiva Festival organisers say about them.

Love and Madness Takeover – Friday, July 5

Love and Madness is a Coventry feel-good story. Drawn from the city’s rich store of musical talent, performers represent a cross section of new, experienced and diverse artists.

Following on from the huge successes of their debut EP WHO’S BLUE – we welcome you to the world of Love and Madness.

BBC CWR takeover – Saturday and Sunday, July 6 and 7

BBC CWR is proud to host the ‘Cov Stage’ on Saturday and Sunday daytime at this year’s Godiva Festival, highlighting our local music scene.

All of the artists have featured on our BBC Music Introducing programme, many of whom we have championed over the years, and some have only been on our radar for a year or so.

The line-up has a fantastic mix of artists and styles and we feel it shows just some of the talent that Coventry and Warwickshire has to offer.

The Coventry Music Museum Takeover – Saturday, July 6

We at the Coventry Music Museum also have our own takeover on from 5.30pm on Saturday, July 6.

It all begins with Specials tour DJ Trevor Evans (ET Rockers) ramping up the energy for the arrival of reggae kings the very wonderful Lloyd McGrath Collective followed at 8pm by our next Artist of The Month – the one that everyone is talking about – Duke Keats.

Then headlining our stage is the one and only Roddy Radiation and the Skabilly Rebels, bringing our takeover to a glorious end.

We may be competing with the other stages, but if it is the Coventry you want then our stage is your choice, there will be some merch and freebies available with my amazing team on hand in our own gazebo to make this a special Godiva!

As usual the Godiva Festival is showcasing many local artists, in fact so many I really can’t list them all here and it would be unfair to just mention a few, so for the full picture get yourself over to the website at

See you on the July 5.
