CREATIVITY, teamwork and hands-on play are on offer to families at Coventry’s only National Trust site during the school half-term holidays.

Coventry Charterhouse, in partnership with adventure play specialists Woodland Tribe, is inviting youngsters to help build a Moomin-inspired play boat using real tools, including hammers, saws and nails, as part of the children’s book’s 80th anniversary celebrations.

Alongside the build, families can enjoy themed crafts and additional creative workshops led by Afghan artist Nabil Amini.

The activities aim to give children the freedom to take the lead, make decisions and work together, helping them gain confidence, learn new skills and create something with their own hands.

Kristenne Pickles, Property Operations Manager at National Trust Coventry Charterhouse, said: “The Charterhouse is a special place in the heart of Coventry, and we want it to open it up to everyone in the city. By collaborating with Woodland Tribe, we’re giving children the opportunity to learn, create and play in adventurous ways, alongside their families and friends.”

Corrine Sampson, Director of Woodland Tribe, added: “This new model of Woodland Tribe gives children and families the chance to play, build and create something of their own to take away.

“Working alongside Nabil will be a real treat, with his workshops offering families even more ways to get creative this half term.”

The boat will be inspired by Tove Jansson’s much loved Moomin stories in the year of their 80th anniversary.

Roleff Krakstrom, CEO of Moomin Characters, said: “The spirit of adventure runs through all of Tove Jansson’s Moomin stories, along with the values of friendship, bravery and respect.

“Woodland Tribe’s approach of empowering children to be bold and encouraging them to work together to create something magical feels like one that Tove herself would very much have approved of.”

The Build a Boat Adventure Play sessions are included with normal admission to Coventry Charterhouse, with free entry for National Trust members.

Build a Boat Adventure Play sessions run from Wednesday October 29 to Sunday November 2. Nabil Amini will be running workshops from Thursday October 30 to Sunday November 2. Visit https://tinyurl.com/5b5n8rhy for more information.
