Nearly a third of Coventrians wages goes towards paying rent

STATISTICS show renters in the West Midlands to be sixth lowest in the country when it comes to the percentage of their earnings they are spending on their accommodation.

At 30.25 per cent, Coventry was slightly higher – and the eighth highest in the region.

The average Coventrian renter earns £518.80 per week and £167.31 on rent.

Bedworth and Nuneaton residents were among the lowest at 27.35 per cent of their earnings spent on rent.

Those living in the two towns earn on average £527.40 and spend £144.23 on their accommodation.

In the region, Birmingham was the highest with people spending 34.85 per cent on rent.




Nationwide, people in the North East pay the least percentage in the rent to earnings ratio (23.5) and London the most (53.6).

The figures from Alan Boswell Landlord Building Insurance company showed, on average, West Midlanders spent 30.2 per cent of their income on rent.
