New basketball programme for Coventry school leavers to start

Coventry Editorial 28th May, 2023   0

COVENTRY Tornadoes basketball club has teamed up with the city’s college to create a new education programme for school leavers.

The Coventry College programme will be for young people aged between 16 and 18 and will get under way in September.

The new programme will be delivered by Paul Adams, who was named 2023 West Midlands Coach of the Year, along with qualified tornadoes coaches.

Youngsters can enrol on full-time level two and three sport courses at the Alan Higgs Centre.

Tornadoes are the largest basketball club in Coventry with over 400 members and 17 teams competing in local, regional and national leagues.

Paul said: “Our aim is to support the growth of students at Coventry College and develop the players’ knowledge and understanding while improving skills and competing in the AOC Sport colleges league.

“Students will also have the opportunity to obtain bespoke coaching and officiating qualifications, providing a fantastic opportunity to support local clubs in the community, and we are looking forward to getting started.”
