A NEW children’s home has opened in Coventry.
The home, which can care for up to four children and young people at a time, aims to provide ‘same-day, short-term’ care when help is needed at short notice.
It will allow siblings to stay together when possible, or prevent children from being placed at a distance.
The home is the second to open in recent months, as part of Coventry City Council’s ongoing efforts to improve care across the city and support children, young people and their families.
Earlier this year, the city officially opened its first purpose-built home for children in care with disabilities that can cater for four children and young people at a time.
Two smaller homes are due to open in early 2026 for children in the city with the most complex needs.
A drive to recruit more foster carers is also underway.
A council spokesperson said: “Creating new homes enables more children to be given the care and support they need, remaining near to their family, friends and communities, while continuing their education and prevents them being placed with external providers, who may increase costs or seek to make a profit from caring for vulnerable children.”
Coun Patricia Seaman, the council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, added: “It is wonderful that we have been able to open a second home in recent months, and there is more to come as we continue our work to put our city’s families at the heart of all we do.
“We are determined to help Coventry children stay close to home and their support groups, and to be supported by the excellent care and dedicated professionals available in our city.
“Building these new homes makes financial sense, but we would not do it if it wasn’t the right thing to do for the children and young people. Their welfare comes above all for us and we will continue to make Coventry a true child-friendly city where every child and young person has the same opportunities to live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.”
Sukriti Sen, Director of Children and Education Services at Coventry City Council, added: “The new home is warm and welcoming and will really help to make a difference for children and young people who are going through difficult times.
“With our dedicated social workers and foster carers, these new homes are helping to change lives. Thank you to everyone who is a part of that work to make Coventry such a caring city.”
