DHL Parcel UK has broken ground on a new £230million hub in Coventry’s SEGRO Park which is expected to create 650 new jobs.

The new 25,000m sq hub – the equivalent of almost five football pitches – is expected to be completed by summer 2024 and will be able to handle more than 500,000 items a day. It will also feature storage and customs capabilities to help with international e-commerce.

State-of-the-art facilities will make parcel handling quicker and solar panels, EV charging stations and LED lighting are among the measures to ensure the design meets environmental standards.

The new Coventry Hub is part of a £482million investment to help with British business growth.

Coventry has been selected due to its location, as 90 per cent of British postcodes can be reached within four hours.

DHL Parcel UK CEO Peter Fuller said: “We’re excited to see this major project get under way.

“Our existing hub and head office are in neighbouring Ryton-on-Dunsmore so we’re proud to continue investing in the area, creating new jobs and a blueprint for sustainable development.”

SEGRO managing director of national logistics Andrew Pilsworth added: “We are looking forward to creating another modern, industrial and logistics development at SEGRO Park Coventry which will drive jobs, inject growth into the local economy and enable the e-commerce services we increasingly use in our daily lives.”
