ANOTHER Covid-19 testing centre is to open in Coventry in the city centre.

The mobile unit will be at Moat Street car park, close to the Sky Dome, as part of national attempts to improve accessibility for coronavirus testing.

The new facility will open on Monday (August 3) until Sunday August 16, when a decision will be taken on whether to move it elsewhere.

There is already a regional testing centre at the Ricoh Arena on the city’s outskirts.

Coventry City Council said: “Anyone with coronavirus symptoms, however mild, must get a test to help stop the spread of the virus and protect family and friends around them.

“The swab test takes less than a minute and is pain free. Results from tests taken at the mobile unit are received the next day.

“Those being tested will be required to follow public health measures, including social distancing, not travelling by taxi or public transport, washing their hands thoroughly before and after and wearing a face covering throughout, including travelling to and from the testing unit.

“Anyone attending an appointment will be provided with guidance on getting to and from the test site safely. Testing is available for everyone, with additional support for vulnerable groups and people with disabilities.”

Councillor George Duggins, Coventry City Council leader, said: “The success of the test and trace programme is vital if we are to tackle the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

“Creating this mobile facility is an opportunity to make testing more accessible for Coventry residents.

“I encourage anyone with Covid-19 symptoms, however mild, to book a test and anyone contacted by NHS Test and Trace to follow their advice to protect those close to them.”

Liz Gaulton, Director of Public Health at Coventry City Council, added: “Testing units like this allow Coventry residents who develop symptoms to quickly get a test and find out whether they need to stay at home with their household or can safely return to work or more normal life.

“This is a national effort and we are proud to be working with our partners to reduce the number of cases and build the capability needed to protect the city from Coronavirus.”

The council added that anyone who tests positive for coronavirus in England will be contacted by NHS Test and Trace to help them track their contacts. This will help people to identify who they may have been in close contact with, protecting others from further transmission.

Close contacts of those testing positive will also hear from NHS Test and Trace, advising them to stay at home for 14 days to prevent them from unknowingly spreading the virus. They will be advised to also book a test if they develop symptoms.

You can book a test online on the NHS website or by calling 119.
