A NEW Home Bargains will open its doors in Coventry at 8am on Saturday, March 13, bringing 127 jobs.

The company has invested around £9million into the store at Cross Point Business Park.

In total, 140 people will be employed there, including some staff and management who will be transferring from local stores.

The firm will also be donating £2,000 to the Coventry Cyrenians charity, which provides individualised support to promote and enhance the life chances of people in Coventry and Warwickshire who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, and empower them to live as independently as possible.

Jack Swinburn, Coventry Cyrenian’s fund-raising and partnerships manager, said: “Like most charities, we are facing challenging circumstances in the current climate and donations such as this help to ensure we can continue to provide our services to the homeless and vulnerably housed of Coventry and Warwickshire.

“We’d like to thank Home Bargains and the employee who chose our cause as the beneficiary of this donation. We wish them the best of luck with their new Coventry store.”

The new Coventry store will join over 500 outlets across the UK. Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

Wajeeha Mohi-uddin, the new Coventry store manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to be opening our new Coventry store this weekend and something that I’m exceptionally proud of.

“Having worked for Home Bargains for just over six and a half years, starting out as a supervisor at our Beacon Retail Park store, this is certainly a special moment and one I’ll cherish for the rest of my career.”

The 42,141 sq ft store, which formally housed Toys ‘R’ Us, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

The new store will also come with an on-site café serving hot and cold refreshments to customers, and its own bakery, serving a delicious range of fresh bread, pastries and cakes that will be baked in-store daily.

Wajeeha added: “Cross Point Business Park will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”
