New look and ambitious vision for Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre

COVENTRY’S Belgrade Theatre has unveiled a new look and an ambitious vision which focuses on inspiring local communities.

Sharing Coventry’s stories since 1958, the theatre’s fresh branding was introduced by creative director Corey Campbell, chief executive Laura Elliot alongside chair, Prof Jonothan Neelands, last Thursday.

The event welcomed a diverse array of guests, including local artists, audience members, funders, and investors, who were treated to work-in-progress performances, insightful interviews with community project partners, and a captivating promotional film that accompanied the unveiling of the theatre’s refreshed website.

There is also a new business plan aimed at expanding the theatre’s standing in the cultural community by 2030.

At the heart of the Belgrade Theatre’s renewed vision lies its legacy as a post-war symbol of community resilience and unity.




Community involvement will be central to new productions, with programmes such as collaborating with pupils from Extended Learning Centres on the musical aspects of a fresh adaption of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by creative director Corey Campbell.

Corey said: “Our responsibility to the communities of Coventry is founded on our rich legacy of Theatre-In-Education, co-creation and working with young people.


“In this new model, we’re taking that to the next level.

“True co-creation is more than collaboration – it’s interdependency.

“We rely on our communities to produce new work, and they rely on us to help them share their stories.”
