New mobile phone app to tell Coventry young people about events in city

Coventry Editorial 18th Aug, 2018   0

A NEW mobile app which will host a one-stop platform for youth provision in Coventry has been released.

The Coventry Youth Partnership has launched the app as part of its new website and it will provide a database of activities and events taking place in the city.

Partners from across the city have joined together to provide a calendar of activities for the platform, which has been supported by key strategic partner Coventry City Council.

The app is a place for young people, parents and young people’s professionals to go to find out where they can take part in activities in their local communities.

Most of the provision listed is either free of charge or low price and targets people aged eight to 19.

Young people helped to design the website and the app, giving feedback and advice on how it can be made accessible for people their age.

It will only be accessed directly from the Coventry Youth Partnership website.

The project is also being supported by Coventry City of Culture Trust, as the city builds toward being UK City of Culture in 2021.

The release of the new app and website forms part of a larger citywide work programme for the Coventry Youth Partnership – which is led by the Positive Youth Foundation.

Rashid Bhayat, founder of the Positive Youth Foundation, said: “Taking part in positive activities has many benefits and we hope that this mobile app will make it easier for young people to know where to go.

“While it is impossible to capture every single activity that is happening in the city, this promotes the activities led by members of the Coventry Youth Partnership.

“Thanks to the support of Coventry City Council and select youth partners we have been able to launch this for the benefit of young people to help them learn more about what is available for them.”

Coun Pat Seaman, cabinet member for children and young people, added: “I think it is so important for young people to be able to get together and take part in the activities that interest them and to meet other people.

“I know there are lots of interesting and exciting things going on in Coventry and this app will help people to find out where they are and how to get involved. I would urge everyone to download it.”
