A NEW pizza restaurant is the latest to be opening in the resurgent Cathedral Lanes former shopping centre development in Coventry.
MOD Pizza will open its doors to the public for the first time on Friday (March 29) – and all proceeds from pizza sales that day will be donated to city charity Positive Youth Foundation (PYF).
Cathedral Lanes’ transformation to a restaurant facility in the city’s main central square, Broadgate, has been key to Coventry City Council chiefs’ strategy to regenerate the city centre.
MOD bosses say the city’s sense of community was a primary reason for choosing it as the setting for their 10th UK restaurant.
The restaurant – founded in Seattle in 2008 – allows diners to create their own artisan pizza and salads.
It will offer free pizza for the first 50 customers and 10 lucky people will win free pizza for a year during the opening day.
On opening days the restaurant chain partners with a worthy local cause as part of a long-held tradition.
Their partner in the city will be PYF, which works to provide young people living within challenging circumstances opportunities to reach their full potential.
Tom Patrick, from MOD Pizza, said: “We are so excited to be opening our doors in Coventry, and to be able to support such a fantastic charity at the same time.
“The work that PYF does in the local area is really important to us, and we are delighted to be supporting such a worthy charity.”
Andrew Jack, a trustee from Positive Youth Foundation, added: “We are delighted to have this backing from MOD Pizza at their opening and would like to thank the restaurant for supporting us with these donations.
“The funds raised during the day will be used to support our wide range of programmes across the city and provision for young people which include support around employability, and positive activities.”
Chief executive of MOD Pizza UK John Nelson said: “We are extremely excited to open in Coventry and bring MOD to this fantastic community.
“We are delighted to be able to spread even more MOD-ness in the heart of the town centre with the opening of our 10th restaurant in the UK”.
