A NEW specialist wound care hub has opened after the Warwickshire Federation joined with Nuneaton and Bedworth Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and Coloplast UK, writes Daisy Dillon.
The latest Wound Care Hub runs two clinics twice-a-week at Manor Court Surgery and Stockingford Medical Care Centre in Nuneaton, providing advanced specialist care.
Primary Care Warwickshire Federation consists of 25 GP Practices within three PCNs, In North Arden, Nuneaton and Bedworth, patients are referred into specialist care after their wound shows no indication of healing after two weeks or for those already seeing their practice nurse for treatment more than twice-a-week.
The collaboration allows patients from all over North Warwickshire to receive specialist treatment, helping the existing tissue viability service.
Through the partnership between a private sector of care with the NHS, it has significantly improved patient outcomes.
After a four-week inspection at seven surgeries, 22 per cent of patients met the criteria to be referred to the Specialist Wound Care Hub to easily get the help they needed.
It’s was estimated that 74 practice nurse appointments could be freed up, in order for more people to receive medical care, as well as saving the NHS resources.
