A NEW purpose-built supported living service has been launched in Coventry which aims to give disabled people in the city more independence while bringing over 25 new jobs to the area.
The Broadstreet House development will house 19 tenants and offers a safe and secure home for people with a range of needs, including physical and learning disabilities as well as mental health conditions.
Broadstreet House has also been fitted with assistive technology, specifically designed for the needs of the tenants.
The self-contained apartments include wheelchair-friendly automatic doors connected to fire safety systems, shower rooms, and hoists, and all tenants have access to open garden space.
Supported living schemes help people with learning and physical difficulties, autism or mental health problems gain the confidence to overcome barriers and take their first steps into independent living.
Residents will be referred into the scheme by Coventry City Council.
The scheme was officially launched by the Lord Mayor of Coventry, Coun Jaswant Singh Birdi and Lady Mayoress Krishna Kaur Birdi in a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at the site.
Coun Birdi said: “This development will play an important role in our local community, helping people live a positive, fulfilling and independent life with the support of a care team.”
