New Virtual Reality experience taking people back to the Coventry rave scene launches today

A NEW interactive Virtual Reality experience taking people back in time to a 1989 Coventry rave is launching at The Box in Fargo Village today.

In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats, directed by award-winning filmmaker Darren Emerson, invites audiences to ‘go in search of an illegal rave’, taking them on a journey through virtual poster-strewn bedrooms, pirate radio stations and and secret warehouses.

Viewers will step into the shoes of rave culture pioneers, with the exhibition combining Acid House tracks with multi sensory simulation to tell a story of the police officers, promoters and rave-goers whose rivalry played a huge role in a musical and social revolution.

The project has been produced by BPM XR LTD and East City films, with support from the BFI, awarding National Lottery Funding and Coventry City of Culture Trust.

Rave culture was a huge part of the social fabric in the West Midlands during the 1980’s, with thousands partying through the night to Acid House music in in disused buildings and fields.

The experience will be available through to Sunday, May 1.

Tickets at £6 per person are available by visiting https://coventry2021.co.uk/what-s-on/in-pursuit-of-repetitive-beats/.
