New Year, new bus timetables on National Express Coventry services

Coventry Editorial 27th Dec, 2022   0

THE NEW year will see a host of changes to the National Express Coventry bus timetables.

Most services are not changing or will have minor timetable adjustments, which will aim to improve reliability.

However, the changes will also see several more significant alterations, with some services expected to be provided by a different bus operator.

The number 1 between Coventry and Coundon via Earlsdon will be withdrawn, although an alternative service is expected to be provided by Transport for West Midlands.

Two more services travelling to and from the University Hospital, the 20C from the City Centre and the 31 from Wood End, have also been withdrawn.

In addition, the number 3 between Arena Shopping Park and University Hospital will be withdrawn between Warwickshire Shopping Park and the Hospital due to delays caused by the Binley Road cycle works.

The number 5 will run between Coventry and Norman Place Road in Coundon, with the 5A continuing to operate between Coventry and Chapelfields, and an alternative service to link Coundon with Radford and Arena shopping park is expected to be provided.

The evening and Sunday service on the number 7 between Coventry and Brownshill Green will be provided by Stagecoach under contract to TfWM, although it will be run by National Express Coventry during the day between Monday and Saturday.

The 20A Monday to Saturday evening service between Bell Green and University Hospital won’t run after the 8.15pm bus from the Hospital and the 8.35pm journey from the city centre.

Chris Gibbens, Commercial Director for National Express Coventry, said:

“We know that our bus services are lifelines to many communities and we have been working closely with Transport for West Midlands to protect services and ensure buses continue serving all parts of the city and surrounding areas.

“As we move into the new year our priority is to continue building on the positive steps we are taking to improve the reliability of our services while we continue to provide a comprehensive network.

“We have carefully reviewed the network to make sure it fits with current demand and our customers should see an improved service, with greater certainty so they can reliably plan to get to where they need to go.

“I am both proud and thankful to our workforce who – throughout the challenging circumstances affecting our industry – are working incredibly hard to keep our customers moving.

“We appreciate the difficulties facing our customers too.

“With the cost of living pressures and many prices rising elsewhere, we are pleased to have frozen our fares once again – providing the people of Coventry with the lowest bus fares in England.”
