THE FORMER mayor and alderman of Nuneaton and Bedwoth has died, aged 94.
Don Jacques BEM, served as mayor from 1995 to 1996 and represented St Nicolas ward as a councillor.
He was leader of the Conservative group for many years and was instrumental in the ‘Roll of Honour’ for the fallen that were not listed on the War Memorial in Riversley Park.
Mr Jacques was a member of the Royal British Legion and took part in organising funding to replace the stolen Old Bill Memorial as well as burying a time capsule which can be opened in 2096.
His efforts saw him made an Honorary Alderman of Nuneaton and Bedworth in March 2022.
Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Councillor Chris Watkins, said: “We are saddened to learn of the death of Mr Jacques.
“He was dedicated to his causes and worked tirelessly for the communities he served.
“I would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to Mr Jacques’ family and friends.”
Mr Jacques’ wife, Auriol, who served as his Mayoress died in October 2021, aged 90, and he is survived by son Keith and daughter Valerie.
