Nuneaton woman sentenced to 38 weeks behind bars for assaulting police

A NUNEATON woman has been sentenced for 38 weeks behind bars for assaulting police officers and stealing from shops.

Leanne Jackson, 36-year-old of Denehurst Way, was sentenced on March 22 at Coventry Magistrates Court and  has been ordered to pay a victims surcharge of £154.

During a second hearing on the same day, Jackson was found guilty on two charges of threatening and abusive behavior, as well as one additional charge of theft from a shop.

The incidents leading to her conviction began on March 27 2023 when she entered a service station on Croft Road in Nuneaton, taking two four-packs of lager without paying and was captured on CCTV.

On June 4, Jackson repeated the theft at the same station, taking two more four-packs of beer.

On September 26, she returned, stealing £25 worth of product.

Jackson’s urinated on the floor in Nuneaton town center on September 29.

This was followed by an argument with another woman on October 3, leading to her arrest for public order offenses and theft from a shop.

On January 15, police received a call from a chip shop on Tompkinson Road, officers found her drunk, throwing sauce sachets, and refusing to leave.

Jackson verbally abused the officers and kicked one in the face when they tried to remove her.

She was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car, where she proceeded to bang her head against the car window.

Jackson claimed to have no recollection of the events due to how much alcohol she had drank.

She has been issued a criminal behavior order which prohibits her from entering Nuneaton town center (with exceptions), possessing open alcohol in the town center, and going into the service station on Croft Road.

PC Trotter of the North Warwickshire Patrol Investigations Unit, said: “Jackson’s behaviour towards our officers and the public is obviously totally unacceptable.

“There is no reason why the shopkeepers that she has targeted for theft or antisocial behaviour should have to put up with her, nor should my colleagues have to just accept her violence against them – whether she recollects her actions or not.”
