Nuneaton paedophile jailed for sexual offences dating back to 2010s

Coventry Editorial 6th May, 2024   0

A MAN has been jailed for 20 years for non-recent child sex offences in Nuneaton.

The conviction into William Inglis, aged 44, of Gilfil Road, followed an investigation by specialist child abuse officers at Warwickshire Police.

Inglis committed the offences more than five years before the survivors bravely came forward and told police what had happened to them in the 2010s.

He was arrested and questioned by officers in December 2021 after one of his victims reported the abuse to a teacher. She was aged 11 when she was subjected to months of sexual abuse.

A second victim disclosed offences to police the following February. She was subjected to years of sexual abuse when she was a teenager.

An investigation was launched by officers who compiled the evidence of Inglis’ crimes and later charged him with the offences.

He was jailed at Warwick Crown Court on Thursday, having previously pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault, two counts of assaulting a girl by touching and three counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15.

‘A dangerous man’

He was given a 15-year prison sentenced extended by five years after the judge deemed him a dangerous offender.

Det Con Surj Hundal, who investigated the case, said: “Without the courage of the survivors, Inglis’s crimes would never have come to light, and he would not have been brought to justice.

“I hope this gives confidence to other survivors of sexual offences, no matter when they occurred, that there are people who will listen, and you will be offered support.

“We are committed to catching those responsible for this type of offending.”
