IN A touching story of friendship, Ann, an 83-year-old resident of Acorn Lodge Care Home in Nuneaton, has found a true companion in Angela, a 47-year-old volunteer from Canada.

The two have been connecting through weekly video calls since July, thanks to the Adopt a Grandparent charity, and their bond has only grown stronger with time.

Ann’s connection to Canada runs deep, as her sister Barbara relocated there years ago.

This special link to the country made her particularly excited when she was paired with Angela through the charity.

Ann said: “We were meant to meet, and I am so glad we have found each other,”

The weekly calls have become a cherished routine for Ann, who eagerly anticipates catching up with Angela.

Their conversations range from stories about their lives to the simple joys of daily events.

For Ann, these calls have been a source of joy and a way to alleviate the loneliness that can often accompany old age.

Angela, who volunteers with the Adopt a Grandparent charity in Canada, has gone above and beyond to make Ann feel included and valued.

She sends letters and photographs of her family, bringing a sense of closeness despite the physical distance.

In return, Ann is planning to send a letter filled with fun facts about her hometown of Nuneaton, along photos of her own family.

As Ann prepares to celebrate her 84th birthday on September 21st, this newfound friendship is a gift she treasures deeply.
