'Operation Speedy' - Five arrested as police clamp down on Coventry drug-dealing

COVENTRY’S St Michael’s Police team have arrested five people in three shifts in and around the city centre on suspicion of drug-dealing.

And, as well as the arrests, officers have also seized  £1,700 in class A drugs, £500 worth of cannabis. £1,000 in cash and two knives.

The action was part of Operation Speedy.

Yesterday (Monday), nine stop and searches were carried out. That led to five arrests and two illegal vehicles seized.

A weapon sweep and a knife arch operation were also carried out at Pool Meadow bus station, two drugs warrants were executed and uniformed patrols were stepped up in the area.

On Sunday, two men were held close to Far Gosford Street for possession with intent to supply class A drugs.




Police say they have received intelligence from the community about dealing in the area and were reacting to that.

On Friday, plain-clothed officers spotted individuals known for drug-dealing at Coventry Canal Basin. They were stop and searched and a 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of intent to supply class B drugs The prolific offender was taken into custody for questioning.
