Organisations can now express interest to take over running Bedworth Civic Hall

ORGANISATIONS interested in running Bedworth Civic Hall will soon be able to submit an offer.

Last night (July 26) Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s cabinet agreed to move to the final stage of the process and tender the leasehold interest in the building.

Two organisations have expressed an interest in taking the building on, but others will also be able to submit an offer.

The successful bidder will then agree to the final details of a lease.

This will likely give them the right to run the building for 25 years.

The final decision will be taken by senior officers and Portfolio Holder for Public Services, Coun Sue Markham.

She said: “Through this process we have been keen to be as open and transparent as possible, guided throughout by the relevant legislation.

“We are seeking the very best result we can get for the Council Tax payers of this Borough, and at this point, we don’t want to put any impediment in the way of any bidder with a realistic proposal to breathe new life into this building.”

The council opened the engagement for Bedworth Civic Hall in November.

At the time, council leader Coun Kris Wilson said the Civic Hall was a ‘significant financial burden’ on the authority’s budget that it was no longer in a position to sustain.

Coun Wilson added it was costing the council more than £845,000 and it was forecast to increase in future years.
