A UNIQUE art installation that depicts the moon in all its detail is set to land in Coventry next month.
Museum of the Moon will light up the city centre with a unique programme of events planned at the end of September.
The event is part of the Festival of Imagineers – a city-wide celebration of art, design, and engineering which lasts for a week.
Created by Luke Jerram, the artwork – which measures seven metres in diameter – features detailed imagery of the lunar surface from NASA.
It will be featured at Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre before moving on to Coventry Cathedral.
Visitors of all ages are invited to experience the installation for free of charge at both venues.
Luke Jerram said visitors can experience the moon in different ways as it is being shown in two locations.
He added: “I am so pleased to be bringing Museum of the Moon to Coventry.
You have the chance to swim, workout and see special performances around the pool at the leisure centre or go to Coventry Cathedral and lie underneath it.”
The lunar artwork will be suspended over the pool at the leisure centre.
It will then move to Coventry Cathedral where visitors will be able to take a closer look at the work and listen to the sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones.
Laura McMillan, manager of Coventry City of Culture Trust, said: “It is these kinds of projects that get people talking and we want to make sure that everyone has the chance to see the artwork.
We would like to thank the Festival of Imagineers for their hard work in making this possible and working with us and Coventry Sports Trust to make it the most awe-inspiring experience for everyone.”
