Over 250 helped by Sky Blue Support anniversary street feed

MORE than 250 Coventrians were helped by Sky Blue Support on Saturday as part of the not-for-profit community organisation’s second-anniversary street feed.

The event on Remembrance Road saw around 100 people fed on the day and many more food parcels handed out.

In the two years since Sunny Braitch founded the group, Sky Blue Support has provided hot meals and food parcels to those in need, feeding over 90,000 people during that time.

The group now holds street feeds every Saturday, helping residents in Willenhall or Hillfields on alternating weekends, and the group’s 19 volunteers drop off food supplies to residents, charities and shelters seven-days-a-week.

After initially receiving small donations from local stores, Sky Blue Support was put in touch with FareShare and Neighbourly leading to it picking up food from major chains like Tesco, KFC, Nandos, Sainsbury’s and Aldi.

Sunny said: “Considering all this started with just me and a notepad, I’m extremely proud of how big the project’s become.

“We are now helping so many people as well as supporting other projects which really touches my heart.

“All of this couldn’t be done without the team – they never ask for anything in return they just want to help others.

“We have many more projects planned in the future, we just want to help as many people as possible.”

Those in need of Sky Blue Support’s services can visit St Peter’s Centre in Hillfields every second Saturday from 1pm.

People in Willenhall can visit Remembrance Road every other Saturday at the same time, although the feeds will take place at the Hagard Community Centre on days when the weather is poor.

Sky Blue Support is also on the lookout for a new van to help with pick-ups and drop-offs.

Anyone who can donate a van can contact Sunny on the Sky Blue Support social media pages.
