OVER 270 cyclists have signed up for this years Starley Sportive charity cycle, which takes place this Sunday, September 4.
And the event has already raised over £50,000 for its three chosen charities, The Myton Hospices, Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice and University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire Charity, with all the proceeds split equally between them.
The annual sportive was established by Coventry Road Club, Deeley Group and Coventry City Council in 2017.
The sportive starts at 8.30am from Deeley Groups head office on Herald Avenue, travelling past areas of Coventry and Warwickshire as part of three routes.
Representatives from the three charities will be giving cyclists an energy boost on the day by handing out teas and coffees.
Each cyclist taking part has been asked to donate at least one food item before hitting the road.
The aim is to get over 50 food parcels put together which will be donated to local foodbanks.
Coventry Road Club general secretary Ian Court said: “To pass the £50,000 mark is incredible, and each charity entry that is received means we can do even more to help those in Coventry and Warwickshire that are doing their best in the face of challenging circumstances.”
