Over £300,000 of cannabis seized from three Coventry properties

OVER £300,000 of cannabis has been seized from three Coventry properties.

Gangs unit officers went to two addresses on Leopold Road and another on Trentham Road yesterday (March 1) , taking around £327,000 worth of drugs including more than 500 plants and a large amount of harvested and dried cannabis.

All three addresses had established cannabis production rooms and most of the rooms in each house contained large numbers of plants.

In one of the houses, there were more than 100 adult plants and there were also drying rooms and rooms set up to grow saplings.

A man in his 30s was arrested at the first address and handed over to immigration.

A second man in his 20s was arrested at one of the properties and later charged with being concerned in the production of cannabis.

He will appear at Coventry Magistrates Court tomorrow (March 3.)

And a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody before being safeguarded and released with no further action.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Cannabis farms present a danger to the community, not just because of the drugs themselves, but because of how electricity is bypassed to steal enough power for the cannabis farms.

“Coventry has had three large house fires already in 2023 as a result of cannabis factories.

“Landlords should remember to carry out regular checks on their properties and ensure they report any suspicious activity to the police as soon as possible.”
