TWO men have been detained following a suspected ‘gang clash’.

Coventry Police said the pair were arrested after gunshots were fired in Potters Green on Sunday afternoon.

A man riding an e-scooter was allegedly rammed by occupants of a black Audi who pursued him at 4.20pm on Watcombe Road.

He then opened fire on the Audi which sustained gunshot damage.

Armed police, deployed to the scene, traced the Audi to a petrol station 45 minutes later where the two men were held.

The vehicle was seized for forensic examination and the pair were taken into police custody on suspicion of attempted wounding.

Chief Inspector Paul Minor from Coventry Police said: “The two men we’ve arrested have links to gang activity in the city and we suspect this was a clash between rival groups.

“Efforts are ongoing to identify and trace the gunman on the scooter.

“Thankfully nobody was hurt but clearly discharging a firearm in public is total unacceptable.”

He added it happened in the middle of a sunny Sunday afternoon and could have led to innocent people being seriously hurt.

He urged any witnesses to the shooting or anyone who saw an e-scooter in the area at the time to call police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
