A PETITION campaigning to end abuse in mental health hospitals has reached 30,000 signatures,
Launched in response to the recent closure of Coventry’s Cygnet Joyce Parker Hospital, which was shut down following allegations of patient abuse and mistreatment.
Tabitha Barrowcliffe, who started the petition, said: “The abuse experienced by patients at Cygnet Joyce Parker is not an isolated incident, but a symptom of larger systemic failures within the mental health care system.
“It highlights the urgent need for reform in the way mental health hospitals are monitored, regulated, and run.”
Cassidy Rolfe-Yates, a supporter of Tabitha’s petition, added: “I was in an adolescent hospital run by Cygnet, and I never wanted what I went through and experienced for anyone else to go through. Eventually, it was shut down, but the damage was done.”
Joyce Parker Hospital, a children’s mental health facility operated by Cygnet Health Care, was shut down after the national care watchdog uncovered serious allegations, including staff being seen dragging patients across the floor.
