Petition launched to help renovate Spencer Park pavilion

Coventry Editorial 22nd Feb, 2023   0

THE FRIENDS of Spencer Park has launched a petition to prove public support for plans to help save a disused Edwardian pavilion in the centre of the park.

The pavilion in the Earlsdon park is decaying, with the friends wanting to preserve its appearance while revamping the interior to provide a heritage meeting space, a modern café, and new toilets.

Plans for the pavilion would see it house exhibitions showcasing local heritage articles, photographs, and the work of Coventry artists.

Plans to refurbish the pavilion have been developed by the Friends of Spencer Park over the past three years.

The first stage was ensuring Coventry City Council, which owns the pavilion, had no plans for its future and that they agreed with aims to preserve the building and develop it into a centrepiece and community asset.

Funding organisations are being approached, with applications expected to be submitted within the next few months.

As part of the funding applications, the Friends need to show that the public supports the plans for the pavilion.

The petition, which has been launched to prove public support, currently has over 1,300 signatures.

Should this happen, the Friends are hoping to start work this autumn and have the building opened by next summer.
