MOTOFEST Coventry – one of the biggest automotive events in the UK – has received a second Culture Recovery grant from the government to plan this summer’s month-long festival.
Founded in 2014, this annual event celebrates Coventry’s influence worldwide, past, present and future, on two wheels and four.
The financial boost will help organisers prepare for this year’s festival, from July 17 to August 8, cementing it as one of the UK’s most prestigious heritage events after last year’s event was cancelled due to the pandemic.
Festival Director James Noble said: “This second government grant allows us to confidently plan for MotoFest Month 2021 in a Covid secure way. We are delighted that the government have recognised the important work that MotoFest Coventry does in protecting and showcasing our mobile heritage.”
“MotoFest Coventry is unique in demonstrating the significant role that automotive heritage plays in providing a context for future transport innovation.”
In 2019, MotoFest Coventry saw a footfall of 229,000 over the two-day festival weekend, making it one of the biggest automotive events in the country.
This summer it will return with a new format, taking place over four weekends, with different themes each weekend mixing motorsport with heritage vehicle and motorcycle displays, live music and food.
Nearly £400 million has been awarded to thousands of cultural organisations across the country, including to MotoFest Coventry, in the second round of support from the Culture Recovery Fund.
Oliver Dowden, Culture Secretary said: “Our record breaking Culture Recovery Fund has already helped thousands of culture and heritage organisations across the country survive the biggest crisis they’ve ever faced.
“Now we’re staying by their side as they prepare to welcome the public back through their doors – helping our cultural gems plan for reopening and thrive in the better times ahead.”
