A POLICE officer was knocked down by a car outside Coventry Police Station last week, the force has revealed.

The inspector was injured by a red Volkswagen Golf in Little Park Street on Monday, July 28 at around 2pm.

He was taken to hospital for treatment but was not seriously injured. The officer had approached to speak to the driver about the nature of their driving outside the police station.

A 40-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and is on police bail pending further enquiries.

Officers have appealed for a woman who may have seen the incident to come forward. She was pushing a double buggy at the time of the incident.

DC Richard Walker from Force CID, who is investigating, said: “Thankfully the officer was not seriously hurt, although very shaken.

“We are making enquiries to determine exactly what led up to the collision and are asking for people who may have seen the collision to make contact.

“I would particularly like to trace a woman with a double buggy, described as white, slim with dark hair tied back, in her mid-20s and around 5ft 6in – 5ft 7in tall.”

Anyone with information should call Force CID in Coventry on 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
