AN INVESTIGATION is under way after a shooting in Far Gosford Street, Coventry, last night.

An 18-year-old man was injured in the attack which happened as he wa sat in a Vauxhall Corsa around 11.45pm.

He turned up to hospital a short time later where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his arm.

Police believe the person responsible arrived and left the scene by car.

Officers have appealed to anyone with any information on the incident to contact them as soon as possible.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Far Gosford Street is a busy area and we know there would have been people there at the time.

“Were you there? Did you see anything?

“Do you have dash-cam or mobile phone footage of what happened? If so, we want to hear from you.”

Local policing Inspector Jonathan Peepall, said: “Sadly this is another instance of dangerous violence on the streets of the city centre.

“No-one deserves to have this happen to them and there is absolutely no justification for an attack like this in our society.

“I know local people are extremely worried about what has happened, as it follows another shooting that took place in the same street last month.

“We’ve stepped up patrols in the area to reassure and engage with local people and businesses over the coming days, as a team of detectives work round the clock to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.”

He added enquiries were at a very early stage and appealed to anyone who knew anything – no matter how small – to call police on 101, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or submit details via live chat at west-midlands.police.uk

“We must all work together to bring those responsible to justice and ensure Coventry is a safe place to live, work and enjoy.”
