A 29-YEAR-OLD man has been charged by police, following a 35-mile car chase from Wolverhampton to Coventry.

West Midlands police arrested Ion Bucar, of Hampton Road, Edgwick, Coventry, who was charged with aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving.

A second man, aged 23, was released without charge.

Police started the pursuit in Wolverhampton, after a patrol car was rammed when officers tried to pull over a BMW.

In a statement, West Midlands police said: “We arrested two men in Coventry following a police pursuit that started 35 miles away in Wolverhampton when one of our patrol cars was rammed.

“Officers patrolling in Upper Villiers, Wolverhampton, at 9.20pm were rammed when trying to pull over a BMW 118D M Sport.

“The car made off but was picked up by the police helicopter heading into Coventry about 20 minutes later.

“An on-board camera operator monitored the car’s movements as it drove into the city at speed, performing dangerous overtakes and jumping red lights before being abandoned in Eld Road.

“Two men were seen running off into Culworth Court but were found hiding in a block of flats by response officers who were guided in by the police’s eye-in-the-sky [police helicopter].

“Men aged 29 and 23 − both from Coventry − were arrested on suspicion of car theft, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

“The car was running on cloned plates but enquiries revealed it had been stolen in Coventry on September 24.

“The police car was damaged during the collision but no officers were injured.
