A MAN has been charged by West Midlands Police on suspicion of rape and carrying a knife.

Petricia Gheorghita was arrested at 7.15am on December 19, following police stopping a car in Hillfields.

West Midlands Police said: “We’ve charged a man suspected of carrying out a series of attacks on sex workers in Coventry.

“Romanian national Petricia Gheorghita was arrested at 7.15am yesterday after officers stopped a car in the Hillfields area.

“He was questioned in connection with a number of sex assaults and in the early hours of this morning charged with three counts of rape, one attempted rape and another count of possessing a knife in public.”

It’s alleged the 34-year-old, of no fixed address, repeatedly raped a 42-year-old woman in a car on a date between August 20 and 25.

He is also accused of trying to rape a 21-year-old woman in a car on November 15.

Gheorghita appeared at Coventry Magistrates Court today and was remanded into prison ahead of his next appearance at Warwick Crown Court on 23 January.
