Police commissioner by-election date set after Bob Jones death

A BY-ELECTION has been set for August after the death of police and crime commissioner Bob Jones.

The 59-year-old died in his sleep last Tuesday.

And the by-election, set for Thursday, August 21, was triggered by a UKIP party member just days after his shock death – sparking anger from rival parties.

Guidelines state a by-election must happen within 35 days of it being called and supporters had hoped to launch it after Mr Jones’ funeral.

We reported last week how tributes flooded in for the Labour man, who had been elected by a huge majority across the West Midlands in November 2012.
