TWO CRIMINALS had a woof time and felt the furry paw of the law when Police Dog Vapor caught them breaking into a house in Coventry.

The pair of burglars, who are now in custody, had a pawful time last night (Tuesday) when the brave canine sniffed them down in Stoke area of the city.

Police were alerted to a burglary in Yeomanry Walk just after 6.30pm – officers arrived within minutes.

A 47-year-old man assaulted a constable with a crowbar in an attempt to escape, but was pinned down by the officer who later needed stitches to a cut on his head and treatment for other minor injuries.

The second man ran off but PD Vapor took up the chase. He hounded him through alleyways and found him hiding behind a large spiked metal gate.

At the sight of the dog he ran again and PD Vapor was unable to stay on his tail when he climbed over a high gate.

Undeterred, PD Vapor and his handler made their way around to the other side of the gate and took up the scent once more, finding a hat and a jumper along the way.

With the help of the police helicopter the 43-year-old was found by the courageous pooch behind a garage in a garden on Ernsford Avenue, more than an hour and a half after the chase began.
