POLICE are investigating allegations of child sexual offences in Coventry.

Officers received a report of a child being abused at the mosque in Queen Mary’s Road between 2013 and 2018.

We’re carrying out an investigation into allegations of child sexual offences in Coventry.

A 35-year-old was detained on Thursday on suspicion of assisting an offender in relation to helping a suspect avoid arrest.

He was taken in custody for questioning.

Police said officers were following active lines of enquiry to arrest a prime suspect – who was previously connected to the mosque – and they had been liaising with community partners and the mosque during the investigation to date.

The police added: “We fully understand the concerns of the community and we’re grateful for the support we’ve received in our enquiries so far.

“False speculation and the stirring up of unrest can distract from an investigation, which has to be the primary focus of our specialist officers.”

And the force urged anyone else who had been subjected to abuse or who could help with enquries to contact officers via Live Chat at westmidlands.police.uk or by calling 101.
